The World Bank Capital-at-Risk Notes Program is a disaster risk transfer program.

The World Bank Capital at Risk Notes program facilitates risk transfer solutions using the capital markets. Under this program, the World Bank issues notes where some or all of the investors’ principal may be at risk, such as in catastrophe bonds (cat bonds) and pandemic bonds.

Capital at Risk Notes are issued under the World Bank’s Global Debt Issuance Facility.

Jamaica’s first cat bond launched at $175m by World Bank IBRD

The first catastrophe bond to benefit the Caribbean island nation of Jamaica has now been launched to investors, with the IBRD CAR 130 transaction, that is being issued via the World Bank, set to provide the Government with a $175 million or greater source of named tropical storm and hurricane disaster insurance protection.
