Held in September 2026, in partnership with SCOR Investment Partners and Vantage Risk, our sixth ILS-focused roundtable at the annual Monte Carlo reinsurance industry meeting brought together nine market leaders to share their insights and debate the issues shaping the asset class.

Discussions explored evolving investor appetite and sophistication, alongside the importance of continued education and stable pricing as ILS attracts growing interest and continues to mature.

The outlook for catastrophe bonds remained positive, with participants highlighting a healthy pipeline for the remainder of 2026 and into early 2027. Momentum was also viewed as strong across private ILS and blended strategies, underpinned by attractive risk-adjusted returns, diversification, and several years of strong performance.

However, as the reinsurance market continues to soften, maintaining underwriting and structural discipline is becoming increasingly important. Participants emphasised the need to remain focused on terms, attachment points and rate adequacy, while questioning whether spreads will stabilise before falling to levels that no longer adequately compensate investors.

The discussion also considered opportunities to expand ILS into other areas, including casualty, as well as the potential presented by data centre-related risks. Alongside these opportunities, participants examined what could disrupt the market’s positive trajectory or undermine investor confidence in catastrophe bonds and other ILS structures, even as investor familiarity with and understanding of the asset class continue to deepen.

While acknowledging the inherent challenges of predicting market direction, participants anticipated a constructive environment for ILS investors in 2027.
