As we predicted earlier, tropical depression 16 has now become tropical storm Nicole. However the rest of our prediction has become far less certain as Nicole has turned over Cuba and the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) forecast for the expected path of Nicole has changed quite substantially and become much less certain.

Sometimes tropical depressions get overlooked. Unless a storm gets a name they are often considered benign and not worth watching or being aware of. Tropical depression 16 is currently traversing Cuba and heading straight for Florida, it’s expected to become Tropical storm Nicole later today as it crosses the sea to Florida.

Weather Services International (WSI) has updated its forecast for the remainder of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. They say that they were somewhat surprised that Julia and Karl both attained major hurricane status last week and that has drawn them to the conclusion that the forecast needs to be upped slightly.
