U.S. tornadoes and severe thunderstorms

Severe convective storms in the United States are a key peril for the insurance, reinsurance and catastrophe bond markets. U.S. severe thunderstorms and the resulting hazards of large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes cause billions of dollars of damage each year and heavy losses to insurers and reinsurers.

With the catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) market increasingly exposed to these perils it is vital to keep abreast of the development of severe convective weather which could result in tornadoes and extreme hail. This page provides resources to keep up to speed with developments during the U.S. tornado season and the trends in terms of seasonal tornado impacts.
