Stand hires former Nephila exec Landi as CFO, raises $70 Million Series C

Stand, a licensed insurance producer with a focus on insuring property in catastrophe-exposed regions, has announced the hiring of former Nephila Capital executive Tony Landi as its Chief Financial Officer, with a remit to ensure the right reinsurance capital is there to support the company as it grows.

stand-logoStand has grown from $1 billion of property insured a year ago to now $10 billion and today announced the completion of a Series C fund raise that secured the company $70 million  at a $1 billion valuation.

Backers in the round included leader Saga Ventures, with participation from Lowercarbon, Eclipse, Equal Ventures, Inspired Capital, Neotribe, and Jackson Square Ventures, among others.

Stand has a mission to “to insure all the world’s resilient property, by making homes safer and thus insurance cheaper,” and part of that will inevitably be ensuring it has the most efficient reinsurance capital in place.

Stand uses its Stand World Model to create a digital representation of every home it aims to insurer, simulating how it will perform under catastrophe conditions, from fire, wind, and other disasters. The model accounts for home construction, surroundings, and the weather or catastrophe conditions it faces.

“Instead of waiting decades for history to reveal what works, Stand pulls the future forward. It shows exactly what makes a specific home vulnerable and the most cost-effective ways to protect it,” Stand said.

The company believes this will mean safer homes, given the resilience angle as it helps homeowners understand how they can improve it, while delivering cheaper insurance over the long-term and making coverage more durable.

“Disasters follow the laws of physics, and insurance should too,” explained Dan Preston, co-founder and CEO of Stand. “If your home is resilient, you should be rewarded with a low premium and never have to worry about losing your coverage. We want to insure every resilient property in the world, and help make every property safe.”

Stand already counts specialist insurance-linked securities investment manager Nephila Capital as one of its reinsurers and has now hired a former Nephila employee.

Tony Landi has joined the company as Chief Financial Officer, most recently having been Head of Strategic Growth at Nephila.

Landi had joined Nephila as Head of Strategic Growth for the firm’s Nephila Advisors investor relations and US business development division in early 2026.

Prior to that, Landi was Head of Reinsurance & Capital Management at Openly and Head of Portfolio Management at Everest Re.

At Stand, Landi will be tasked with leading finance, reinsurance, capital markets, and growth strategy as the company expands.

“What drew me to Stand is the depth of the team, with real experts in physics, underwriting, and product working on the same problem,” explained Landi. “My job is to make sure that as Stand grows, the capital is there to support it, from our investors and our reinsurance partners alike.

“We’ll do that by building diversified, resilient portfolios and matching risk and returns to capital appetite.”

The company has also hired Drew Saad as President of Property & Casualty, who joins after most recently being the Chief Underwriting Officer at PURE Insurance.

“The companies that reshape a market for decades are the ones that identify a fundamentally better way to understand risk, and Stand has done that for the homes exposed to natural disasters,” Saad commented. “With the science already in place, the opportunity now is to build an insurance operation that matches it and scales it to every market that needs it. That is the work I have spent my career preparing for, and it is why I joined Stand.”

Stand is another example of a tech-forward underwriter of catastrophe exposed properties and as such its access to efficient reinsurance capital will be critical. The hiring of Landi brings onboard expertise in the capital markets and ILS space, which should benefit the company as it establishes more risk capital partnerships over-time.
