Insurance-linked securities (ILS), pure catastrophe bond and reinsurance linked investment funds saw a below average return of 0.42% in October 2016, as the majority of hurricane Matthew losses were factored into monthly NAV’s.

Insurance-linked securities (ILS), pure catastrophe bond and reinsurance linked investment funds have seen another strong month of performance in September 2016, as seasonal premiums helped to boost the Eurekahedge ILS Advisers Index return to an above average 1.03%.

Insurance-linked securities (ILS), pure catastrophe bond and reinsurance linked investment funds reported their highest single monthly return of the year in August 2016, with the sector recording an impressive and above average 0.86% for the month.

The average return across insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment funds was 0.4% in July 2016, as premium allocation rose due to the U.S. hurricane season but still three of the ILS funds tracked reported negative returns due to the continued impact of losses.

Insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment funds saw a below-average return of 0.25% in June 2016, as some ILS funds that invest in private and collateralized reinsurance deals were hit by losses from European flooding and the Jubilee oil field FPSO loss.

The average return across insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment funds was just 0.12% in May 2016, as the Fort McMurray, Canada wildfires and other catastrophe events caused losses and erosion of aggregate retentions for funds investing in private ILS and collateralized reinsurance deals.

Despite major catastrophe events that struck around the globe in April 2016, the average return across the group of insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment funds tracked by ILS Advisers was 0.39% for the month, as losses appear limited from these events.

The average return across the group of insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment funds tracked by ILS Advisers was 0.42% in March 2016, which is above the long-term mean for the month helping to take the first-quarter ILS fund average return to 1.17%.

Insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment funds reported their strongest performance since September, returning an average of 0.54% in February 2016, as some adjustments to loss reserves flowing through to boost the months performance.

Insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment funds started 2016 with a below average 0.23% average return for January, as pressure on catastrophe bond prices affected some funds, while price declines across reinsurance markets continue to weigh on performance.
