Swiss Re names Wiget to take over leadership of Alternative Capital Partners

Swiss Re, the global reinsurer, has named long-standing senior employee Mirjam Wiget as the new leader for its Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) division, as incumbent Martin Zingg moves into the Group Chief Investment Officer role.

Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) was established by Swiss Re in 2019 as a division to oversee all activities with alternative capital investors, as well as in the catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) market, including its structuring and ILS fund management operations.

Martin Zingg became the head of Swiss Re’s Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) division earlier this year, but since then he has been promoted to become Group CIO.

The change will happen on October 1st, when Zingg moves to his new position and now Mirjam Wiget steps in as head of Alternative Capital Partners (ACP), reporting directly to Zingg.

Wiget has led Swiss Re’s recently launched Alternative Capital Solutions unit since July, with that area focused on insurance-linked securities and retrocessional hedging and execution at the reinsurer.

Wiget has worked at Swiss Re for more than 15 years, having joined the company in 2011 as a Senior Treasury Officer and then worked her way up through the roles of Head Group Performance Management, Co-Head Group Strategy and Performance Management, and most recently became the Head Group Strategy and FP&A in 2022.

She also led a recent Swiss Re Group review reinforcing the importance of alternative capital to the reinsurer’s strategy and now will lead that strategy forward as head of ACP.

There is no change to established structure within ACP, with Mariagiovanna Guatteri continuing to lead Swiss Re’s third-party ILS investment management business and Jean-Louis Monnier leading Swiss Re’s ILS structuring and origination activities.

One other notable change is that long-standing ILS specialist at Swiss Re Andy Palmer, currently Head ILS Structuring EMEA & APAC, is set to now become Head of Strategic AC & ILS Transactions.

In this new role, Palmer will lead Swiss Re-sponsored ILS and alternative reinsurance capital transactions. He will also continue to serve as CEO of Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited, overseeing regulated ILS activities in the UK and managing Swiss Re’s ILS structurers in Europe.
