Schroders Capital promotes Matter to Head of ILS, after Ineichen departure

Following the recent departure of long-standing senior insurance-linked securities (ILS) employee Daniel Ineichen, Schroders Capital has promoted another key executive, Flavio Matter, to the position of Head of ILS.

flavio-matter-ils-schroders-capitalIneichen had been at Schroders Capital and the specialist ILS firm it had purchased, Secquaero Advisors, since 2007, holding increasingly senior roles.

Having run the catastrophe bond funds for a number of years, Ineichen became Head of Portfolio Management at Secquaero, then held similarly senior roles after Schroders acquired that company and earlier this year became Co-head of ILS at Schroders Capital, alongside Flavio Matter.

Ineichen has departed to pursue a new opportunity, Schroders Capital confirmed and the ILS team there began the process of transitioning his responsibilities in September.

A spokesperson for Schroders Capital told us, “Daniel Ineichen has left the company to pursue another opportunity. Daniel’s responsibilities have been assumed by his ILS colleagues as of end of September 2024, demonstrating the depth of investment experience across the team.

“Flavio Matter is now Head of ILS, while Guillaume Courtet was already promoted to Head of Portfolio Management ILS earlier this year.

“Mark Gibson supports Flavio as Senior Investment Director.”

Matter is another long-standing executive at Schroders Capital, having joined the company a decade ago after almost ten years spent in catastrophe risk analysis and reinsurance.

He first joined as Head of Natural Catastrophe at Secquaero, then became a Senior ILS Underwriter for Non-life risks at Schroders in 2019.

Matter was promoted to Head of ILS Origination in 2020, before becoming Co-Head of ILS, Schroders Capital, in the changes made earlier this year.

Flavio Matter recently participated in Artemis’ Monte Carlo Rendezvous Executive Roundtable.

Schroders had $5.8 billion of ILS assets under management (AUM) as of June 30th this year, putting them in the top-five largest ILS investment managers.
