Russian newspapers are reporting that their government has been discussing plans to save the country’s agricultural industry from drought risks. The Russian government want to shift the burden of agricultural weather risk to the private sector and insurers in particular.

Risk Management Solutions (RMS) recently announced the launch of a new risk model which aims to quantify longevity risk using a medical based approach and taking into account changing mortality phases. A model such as this should see high demand from anyone (pension funds, insurers) looking to hedge the risk of pensioners living longer.

The sixteen members of the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) have all renewed their policies in time for the hurricane season this year. With forecasters predicting an 85% chance of an above average Atlantic hurricane season this year it’s now surprise they all took advantage of this cover.
