The Arcus 1856 Lloyd’s of London syndicate, which is backed by capital from funds managed by the Credit Suisse ILS investment management team, has announced the hiring of a new underwriter, the first new underwriting addition to the team since the syndicate’s launch.
The Credit Suisse ILS team’s Arcus Syndicate 1856 began trading on January 1st 2016, as the second Lloyd’s syndicate backed by an ILS fund manager, fully capitalised with funds managed by the Credit Suisse ILS investment management team.
Katie Higgon has been hired as an underwriter by Arcus 1856 and will report directly to the syndicate’s active underwriter Nicky Payne.
Higgon was most recently a broker and client manager at reinsurance broker Aon Benfield, working in the firms North American property team. Higgon worked across a diverse range of clients, focused primarily on placing property catastrophe risks into the London, European and Asian reinsurance markets. She joined Aon’s Benfield Graduate programme in 2011 and has worked across multiple divisions within the reinsurance broker.

She is a highly motivated and dedicated person who has built up a broad spectrum of expertise across a number of business lines and territories. The Arcus 1856 syndicate underwrites a diversified portfolio of business on an international basis, with its primary focus on reinsurance lines such as property reinsurance and specialty, including marine, energy, cyber, space and aviation.
One of only two full Lloyd’s of London syndicates backed by ILS capacity, Nephila Capital’s being the other, Arcus 1856 provides the Credit Suisse ILS team with a broader underwriting platform that benefits from its position within Lloyd’s and access to business within the specialty insurance and reinsurance marketplace.
