Hiscox Re & ILS names Nottingham as Chair of North America

Global re/insurer Hiscox has announced the promotion of Ross Nottingham to the position of Chair of North America for its Hiscox Re & ILS division, the reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) arm.

Nottingham has been working for Hiscox since 2012, having joined the Hiscox Re & ILS team in Bermuda early that year as an underwriter.

He also took on responsibility for new product development and managing broker relations for the reinsurance arm Hiscox Re. Then in 2014, Nottingham relocated to the UK to lead the North America team in London.

He now takes on the role of Chair of North America, which will see Nottingham lead Hiscox Re’s North American underwriting team and strategy.

The North American underwriting will be supported by the Hiscox Re & ILS team in Bermuda and London, while Nottingham will be tasked with further developing the firms established broker and client relationships.

Nottingham takes on the new role from 1st September 2018 and will remain based in London.

He will report directly to Megan McConnell, Director of Underwriting – London, who alongside Adam Szakmary, Director of Underwriting – Bermuda, are jointly responsible for the underwriting strategy across the Hiscox Re & ILS business.

Prior to Hiscox, Nottingham worked as a broker for 12 years, including seven years at Aon Benfield where he was part of the non-marine retrocessional reinsurance team in both London and Bermuda.

As ever, it’s possible that some of the risks underwritten by the Hiscox Re & ILS team in North America could also see third-party capital participation from the Hiscox Re Insurance Linked Strategies Ltd. (Hiscox Re ILS) team.
