During a panel discussion at the ILS Bermuda Convergence 2025 conference yesterday, speakers were asked to discuss what they’ve seen in the way of improvements in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) asset class over the last five years, with the institutionalisation of ILS and continuing efforts in educating investors both seen as key.

Ledger Investing, the insurance technology (insurtech) and insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused company, has announced the hiring of Ryan Saul as Managing Director, Reinsurance and Capital Markets at Ledger Capital Markets, LLC.

As the insurance-linked securities (ILS) industry meets in Bermuda over the next few days at the 2025 edition of the ILS Bermuda Convergence event, the organisers believe that the island is “uniquely positioned to host next-generation risk financing solutions” with its deep connectivity between reinsurance and ILS capital markets.

At the Hannover Re investor day this week Executive Board Member Silke Sehm explained that the establishment of Hannover Re Capital Partners unit is seen as a new sidecar business opportunity, that will help the reinsurance firm write more property catastrophe risk and earn additional fee income.

AM Best has updated its rating outlooks for RenaissanceRe and its subsidiaries, now seeing the reinsurance firm’s prospects as positive, rather than stable, citing improved performance, a more balanced business due to diversification, and of course the firm’s ability to attract third-party capital through joint-ventures and ILS partnerships.

Over the next year, a vast majority of reinsurance buyers expect attachment points for their excess of loss programs to remain stable. Many also indicated interest in purchasing more aggregate reinsurance in 2026 and additional tail-risk coverage during the year, the latest survey by Moody’s Ratings shows.
