Rating agency A.M. Best has published and is seeking comments on a new draft rating criteria which we believe to be the first to specifically target insurance-linked funds, including those investing in catastrophe bonds, ILS and collateralized reinsurance.

Insurance and reinsurance rating agency A.M. Best has now published the final version of its insurance-linked securities (ILS) market focused criteria report titled “Rating Reinsurance/Insurance Transformer Vehicles.”

Ratings agency Fitch Ratings has published a periodic review and update of its methodology for rating insurance-linked securities (ILS) including catastrophe bonds. This new version of the criteria replaces one dated August 2012.

Insurance and reinsurance focused rating agency A.M. Best is seeking comments from interested parties and market participants on a newly published draft criteria report titled “Rating Reinsurance/Insurance Transformer Vehicles.”

Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services gave a rating to $3.365 billion of catastrophe bonds during the first five months of 2014, already 65% of the $5.16 billion of cat bonds S&P rated in 2013 and 70% of the $4.8 billion rated by the agency in 2012.

Rating agency Moody’s Investor Services has published a new version of its methodology and criteria for rating catastrophe bond transactions. The document, published yesterday, consolidates  into a single document and replaces several older publications which defined Moody’s approach to rating cat bonds.

Back in December we covered ratings agency A.M. Best’s request for comments on updated draft versions of their criteria reports which apply to catastrophe bonds and sidecar reinsurance vehicles. The comment period ended last week and now A.M. Best have published the final updated versions of the criteria reports.
