Guy Carpenter have published an interesting graph as part of their 2010 Catastrophe Update (which you can read on their GCCapitalIdeas.com blog). The graph displays insured losses for man-made disasters and natural catastrophes by year and also shows the 10 year moving average.

Aon Benfield has published their Annual Global Climate and Catastrophe Report for 2010 which reviews the natural disasters that occurred throughout the year and looks at the economic cost and the amount of insured losses which resulted from them.

Reinsurer PartnerRe Ltd. has upped its loss estimate for the September 3rd, Christchurch New Zealand earthquake. The quake damaged over 100,000 homes, cut water and sewage lines and  and loss estimates have been rising as more and more claims come to light.

PERILS AG, the independent Zurich-based company providing industry-wide European catastrophe insurance data, have stepped forwards to provide an estimate for low-frequency high-impact European windstorm loss potential to help with the Solvency II inspired Quantitative Impact Study 5 (QIS5).

2010 is turning into a year of large losses for the re/insurance industry. Frequency of events this year has been extremely high and in the first nine months of the year Munich Re have recorded 725 weather-related natural hazard events, the second highest figure for the January to September period recorded since 1980.

Asian countries, and particularly China, India and Indonesia, are likely to face much higher losses from natural catastrophes in the future.
