Global Index Insurance Facility

Swiss weather index insurance specialists CelsiusPro AG have partnered with the World Bank in a project implemented by the IFC to bring more affordable agriculture insurance to the Ukraine through index-insurance techniques.

The Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF), a weather and disaster insurance facility managed by International Finance Corporation alongside the World Bank, has received funding to help it expand the use of index insurance in agriculture.

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, has signed two grant agreements totaling $3.9m, with the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture to expand a weather index insurance pilot to over one million East African farmers.

French NGO PlaNet Guarantee have teamed up with the International Finance Corporation insurance facility the Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF) to launch what they are calling the first regional management platform for microinsurance and index insurance in West Africa.
