2015 Atlantic hurricane season

More forecasters have joined the call for another below-average Atlantic hurricane and tropical storm season in 2015, but some warn that localised factors near to the U.S. coastline are conducive to storm formation and intensification.

Forecasts for 2015 Atlantic tropical storm and hurricane season activity remain well below both long-term and more recent historical averages, suggesting another low impact year for the U.S. coastline, at least in terms of storm numbers.

The U.S. NOAA’s National Hurricane Center (NHC) has announced plans to launch a storm surge watch and warnings graphic, the next phase following their Potential Storm Surge Flooding Map that launched at the start of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Early forecasts for 2015 Atlantic tropical storm and hurricane season activity suggest an average to slightly below average season, but there is some divergence of opinion this far out from next years tropical storm season.

The 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially drew to a close yesterday, ending another benign year where no major hurricane impacts were seen in the United States. 2015, however, may not be so quiet in the Atlantic according to Munich Re.
