Reinsurance giant Swiss Re has appointed long-standing insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused senior executive Jean-Louis Monnier as the CEO of its US broker-dealer arm, Swiss Re Capital Markets Corporation.
Swiss Re Capital Markets Corporation is a registered broker-dealer, a member of and regulated by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).
In the United States, securities products and related services offered by Swiss Re are dealt with via Swiss Re Capital Markets Corporation and the entity has a key role in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) and catastrophe market, as bookrunner, dealer and arranger.
The company also acts as lead and co-underwriter, conduct secondary market brokerage activities for cat bonds and ILS transactions, and trades ILS and insurance-related securities for its own account.
Swiss Re is one of the most active when it comes to reinsurance capital markets, cat bonds and ILS dealing and arranging and Swiss Re Capital Markets Corporation has existed since 1995, demonstrating the foundational role the reinsurance firm has had in the development of the ILS marketplace.
Jean-Louis Monnier has worked at Swiss Re since 2002, moving through increasingly senior and ILS-focused roles at the company.
He became Head of ILS for the EMEA region in 2008, then in 2015 took on responsibility for P&C Structured Solutions UK & Africa and also became the Global co-Head of Swiss Re’s business.
His current role, which Monnier stepped into in 2019, is as the Head of Retrocession and ILS Structuring of Swiss Re’s Alternative Capital Partners division.
This month, Monnier has also taken on the CEO position for the Swiss Re Capital Markets Corporation broker-dealer business as well.
Palmer sits within Monnier’s team and leads ILS Structuring for EMEA and APAC and is based in the UK, while Andras Bohm leads ILS Structuring Americas from New York. Monnier’s team also includes specific retrocession structuring teams for P&C and L&H business that are located in Zurich and London.
