Reinsurance giant Swiss Re has appointed well-known UK based insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused executive Andy Palmer as the new CEO of its Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited business.
Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited is a UK registered company that is authorised and regulated to conduct investment related business in the United Kingdom by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The business unit offers ILS and reinsurance linked securities products and services to investors and cedents in Europe for Swiss Re.
Palmer was already on the Board of Directors for Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited since 2019.
His most recent role at Swiss Re has been as Director and Head of ILS Structuring EMEA & APAC, for the Swiss Re Capital Markets unit.
Palmer takes on the CEO role of the European arm, Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited, in addition to his lead ILS structuring position.
As well as being insurance-linked securities (ILS) and catastrophe bond focused, the Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited business unit also deals with environmental and industry loss warranty (ILW) derivatives.
The unit operates as a UK regulated version of the US Capital Markets business, providing structuring and broker-dealer type services to Swiss Re clients and for its own ILS market activities.
Palmer has worked at Swiss Re since 2012, having joined the company in an ILS focused role and spent over ten years working on ILS and catastrophe bond structuring at the company.
He has taken the lead on many non-life and life catastrophe bonds, sidecars and nat cat derivatives for insurance and reinsurance clients, as well as Swiss Re itself, plus for corporates and public sector entities.
Palmer also took a leading role in the structuring of Swiss Re’s first ILS fund established under the 1863 alternative capital platform, and leads a number of Swiss Re’s ESG and sustainability initiatives in the ILS space.
Prior to that, Palmer worked at reinsurance broker Aon Benfield’s Securities unit, again focused on the structuring of insurance-linked securities (ILS).
