Weather forecasters are warning of another dangerous severe storm and convective weather outbreak this week for southern states of the US, with torrential rain, large hail, damaging winds and some tornadoes possible.
Atmospheric conditions are expected to become increasingly conducive to thunderstorm and convective weather as we move into Tuesday.
The weather threat is expected to begin with heavy rain for the southwest, California is seeing welcome rainfall today, and then cross the Rockies and move into the Plains, where severe weather conditions are forecast to worsen.
Accuweather sees late Tuesday and Tuesday night as the time when the severe thunderstorm weather threat could rise significantly, with a wide swath of the central south all at risk, across Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Accuweather is calling for torrential localised rainfall totals, alongside hail and potentially large hail, with isolated tornadoes possible and strong to damaging straight-line winds, with a chance of winds of up to 80 mph as the front moves through.
As the rainfall laden storm front crosses the Rockies and into the plains it is expected to spark severe thunderstorms, while moisture will be pulled north from the Gulf of Mexico to feed this convective weather outbreak.
As ever with US severe weather, the location of any severe convective events will be key, with large metro areas in the warning zone.
By Wednesday, the severe thunderstorms will have moved further east, with Louisiana north to Kentucky and surrounds all in the warned area.
Moisture from the Gulf, rising heat brought by the weather systems in question and strong upper-level winds will all provide the necessary inputs for a period of severe weather this week, which insurance, reinsurance and ILS market interests should watch closely.
The severe weather outbreak could continue into Thursday as, much like last weeks event, the thunderstorms roll into Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and severe weather could also affect the Carolinas as the system moves towards the east coast.
