RenaissanceRe Capital Partners, the third-party and ILS capital management division of the global reinsurance company, has added former Swiss Re executive Edward Johnson as a Senior Vice President for Business Development with responsibility across the EMEA and APAC regions.
Johnson had worked at reinsurer Swiss Re in insurance-linked securities roles since joining that company in 2017 as a structurer focused on catastrophe bonds and other ILS arrangements.
He departed from Swiss Re earlier this year, having worked his way up to become the firm’s Head of Business Development for its Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) division.
It was apparent shortly after that time that RenaissanceRe was expected to be the eventual destination for Johnson and he has now joined the company today.
At RenaissanceRe, working in the Capital Partners division, Johnson will maintain his focus on business development, capital raising and investor relations, for the firm’s third-party reinsurance capital joint-ventures and ILS investment management business.
He joins the company today as Senior Vice President for Business Development across the EMEA and APAC regions, a role that will play to Johnson’s experience in the ILS sector.
Prior to his time at Swiss Re, Johnson had worked in business development at UK headquartered ILS manager Leadenhall Capital Partners LLP, before which he had also spent time working in London for Aon in insurance-linked securities.
As such, Johnson has experience in the European region working in capital raising and investor relations, while he has also spent time working closely with investors in the Asia Pacific region as well.
As RenaissanceRe continues to build out its third-party capital and ILS platform, which in the last year included the launch of a European UCITS catastrophe bond fund strategy, the addition of Johnson will provide an experienced presence in key markets that will help the company continue to diversify its ILS business footprint.
