Fermat Capital Management, the specialist catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment manager, continues to expand its investor relations footprint in the Asia Pacific region, with the addition of Nicholas Tan in Singapore this month and also setting up a Japanese office at the start of this year.
It marks the latest expansion of the investor relations team at Fermat Capital Management and a further step in building out a strong footprint in the Asia Pacific region, to enhance its connectivity with institutional investors there.
Nicholas Tan joins Fermat from his most recent position with asset manager Aberdeen where he worked in business development for that company for just over two years.
Prior to that, Tan worked at GAM Investments for three years, Capital Group for over three years, Niko Asset Management for one and half years, with all of these roles also focused on business development and investor relations.
He began his career working for the Dawe Holdings single family office in Singapore in 2012.
Tan has now joined Fermat as a Director of Investor Relations, APAC and will work closely with another relatively recent addition, Greg Hickling who joined in early 2025 and holds the same role but is based in Australia.
The pair will work together to service Fermat’s investor clients across the APAC region we understand.
In addition to the Australia and Singapore footprints now in place, it transpires that Fermat established an office in Japan at the beginning of this year.
Fermat Capital (Japan) K.K. was set up to provide a dedicated base for marketing Fermat ILS fund strategies into the Japanese investor base and servicing investor clients there.
Takakiyo Iwamoto is Director of Investor Relations for Japan and also a Co-Representative Director of Fermat Capital (Japan) K.K. He joined the company in January 2026.
Prior to joining Fermat, Iwamoto worked as a representative director of GAM Japan Limited, prior to which he has held senior positions in sales and structuring roles at Barclays, State Street Global Advisors, J.P. Morgan, Deutsche Bank, and BNP Paribas, while his career began at Mitsui & Co. working to promote alternative strategies.
In addition, the ILS manager also hired Sachie Kobayashi as a Senior Investor Relations Associate for Japan at the start of the year, strengthening its expertise in the country.
Kobayashi also worked in the Product and Global Investment team at GAM Investments prior to joining, leading performance reporting, managing client inquiries, and supporting fund operations. In that role she also served as a primary liaison to help s bridge communication for clients with overseas investment managers and global teams.
Alongside the recent launch of a dedicated cat bond fund strategy for investors in New Zealand, these moves underscore the importance of the Asia Pacific region and investor base, as well as Fermat’s ambitions across the fast-moving markets there.
As we also recently reported, Fermat Capital Management surpassed $11 billion of ILS assets under management in July 2026.
