Artex Risk Solutions, one of the largest insurance management firms and a key facilitator in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) and collateralised reinsurance space, has made a number of changes to its senior ILS leadership and Bermuda team.
All the appointments are within what Artex terms its International Division and in the main feature experienced insurance-linked securities (ILS) professionals.
Firstly, Rob Eastham is moving into the new role of Executive Chairman of Artex Bermuda, from his current position as Managing Director. Eastham is extremely well-known in the ILS and captive industry, having worked in the Bermuda reinsurance markets for 38 years and in recent year’s been largely focused on building out Artex’s Bermuda-based ILS practice.
Scott Cobon has been promoted to the role of Managing Director, Bermuda, replacing Eastham, Artex announced.
Cobon will take on responsibility for the success and development of the still growing Bermuda office for Artex, focused across a diverse range of insurance management products including captives, insurance linked securities (ILS) and commercial risk transfer structures.
Cobon has over 10 years of experience in the Bermuda insurance and reinsurance management industry and Artex said he has been pivotal in the growth of its ILS business. Cobon previously worked as a treaty reinsurance broker in Sydney, Australia and began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Brisbane.
In addition, Paul Eaton has been appointed to the new role of Managing Director, ILS, from his current role as international Business Development Director.
Eaton will take responsibility for driving the strategy, planning and growth of Artex’s ILS business across all locations in which the firm is active.
Artex has over 20 ILS focused professionals across its Bermuda, Cayman and Guernsey offshore offices.
Eaton has been with Artex since 2004, following a 13-year career with insurer RSA in various underwriting and management roles. Based in Guernsey, Eaton is a Director of Artex Guernsey’s ILS cell companies.
Finally, Artex has hired Mike Matthews as Commercial Director, Artex International, giving him responsibility for strategy, planning and delivery of growth for the international business. The role will cover sales, marketing, product development and supporting client services at Artex. Matthews began his career at AIG and has over 30 years’ industry experience in structuring and developing complex and innovative captive insurance solutions.
“At Artex we’re committed to providing the best possible service to our customers by ensuring that we have the highest quality industry professionals,” commented Peter Mullen, CEO of Artex. “These appointments position our team for even greater innovation and growth in the coming years.”
“Today’s announcement is a great step forward in our ongoing commitment to succession planning and the continued delivery of a market-leading service to our customers,” added Nick Heys, CEO of Artex International. “We are extremely grateful for Rob’s leadership and tenure and delighted that he has agreed to step into an Executive Chairman role, where he can continue to provide guidance and counsel to Artex and our customers. Scott is the natural successor for Rob in this role.”
“Paul’s new role fits perfectly into this structure and will allow us to focus attention on ILS products and innovation for which we are already well known,” Heys also said. “We will also benefit from the substantial experience and knowledge that Mike brings to our team.”
Artex is a subsidiary of insurance and reinsurance brokerage Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. and provides its clients with a range of alternative risk transfer and insurance management services, encompassing reinsurance transformers, special purpose vehicles for catastrophe bond issuance, segregated or protected cell structures, captives and more solutions that specifically target the collateralised reinsurance and ILS market.
