Bermuda based catastrophe, insurance-linked securities and reinsurance-linked investment manager Juniperus Capital (and it’s Juniperus Insurance Opportunity Fund) has been sold to private-equity firm Aquiline Capital Partners who have bought out their existing shareholders. Founded in 2008 by Benfield, Transatlantic Re and the funds managers, this move has been coming for a while as we had heard rumours that Juniperus had been up for sale for some time during 2011.
Aquiline, led by Jeffrey Greenberg former CEO of Marsh, and the funds managers have bought out Aon Benfield, another major shareholder Itochu Corporation and Transatlantic Re, according to publication the Insurance Insider.
Aquiline Capital have already had an involvement in the Bermuda reinsurance sector through their investment and involvement in the Validus Group of companies including Validus Managers who participate in the ILS market through their AlphaCat fund.
