US primary insurer Allstate has returned to the catastrophe bond market in search of $300 million or more in multi-peril per-occurrence catastrophe reinsurance protection from the capital markets with a Sanders Re II Ltd. (Series 2025-1) issuance, Artemis can report.

Hiscox Group has now successfully secured the targeted $200 million of retrocessional North American peak peril reinsurance protection from its Ocelot Re Ltd. (Series 2025-1) catastrophe bond transaction, with one tranche of notes priced at the mid of initial guidance, while the second priced at the low-end of reduced guidance, Artemis has learned.

We’re told by sources that the secondary market price for the $100 million Class A notes of Farmers Insurance Group’s Topanga Re Ltd. (Series 2021-1) catastrophe bond has recovered further, as the cat bond market views the risk of principal losses from the California wildfires as having declined.

According to the California Department of Insurance, the insurance industry has paid $6.94 billion in residential and commercial claims to consumers in Southern California, related to the Los Angeles wildfires, as of February 5th, 2025.

The catastrophe bond market is already on-track for record first-quarter issuance in 2025, with almost $2.44 billion of new cat bonds settled so far this year and $1.93 billion of deals in the market pipeline that are scheduled to settle by end of March, according to Artemis’ extensive data on the sector.
