Twelve Capital, an investment manager with a specialism in insurance-linked securities investments have today published the first issue of a new periodical publication which gives their perspectives on issues pertinent to their investment clients. The publication will also be of interest to anyone involved in the insurance-linked securities and catastrophe bond sectors.

The early forecasts for the 2011 Atlantic tropical storm and hurricane season are predicting another active year ahead for storm formation and landfall risks. China Life has received the regulatory approval to expand its microinsurance pilot to five more Chinese provinces. They say they want to achieve US$38m in microinsurance premium income in 2010. The microinsurance pilot can now be operated in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, Xinjiang and Tibet, according to the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.

Atlas VI Capital Ltd. has completed it’s issuance of a Series 2010-1 tranche of notes on behalf of French re/insurer SCOR. The deal, which we wrote about previously here, started life as a €60m transaction when it was first marketed but closed at an upsized €75m (another issuance taking advantage of investor demand).

Insurer Aviva has joined the Life & Longevity Markets Association (LLMA) taking the number of members of the still new association up to eleven. The LLMA is a not for profit association dedicated to promoting liquidity in the traded longevity and mortality risk markets.

Falcon Private Bank has launched a new insurance-linked securities investment fund. It’s the firms second insurance-linked strategies fund, they already manage the Falcon Cat Bond Fund. The new Falcon Insurance Linked Strategy Fund,will invest in catastrophe bonds and is available to private and institutional investors.

UK motoring organisation The Automobile Association (AA) has seen a 23% jump in claims coming in to its insurance call centre due to the UK’s continuing icy and snowy spell of weather. Almost one third of all the motor claims logged with the AA’s insurer were related to snow and ice during this period.
