Greenlight Re, the hedge fund backed reinsurance firm that counts David Einhorn’s Greenlight Capital hedge fund as its investment manager, has hired Simon Burton as its new permanent Chief Executive Officer.
Burton was previously the Chief Executive Officer of SAC Re, the total-return or hedge fund strategy reinsurance firm that had been backed by Steven A. Cohen and SAC Capital, but which was then bought by Hamilton Insurance Group.
Before SAC Re, Burton worked at Lancashire Group, including in leadership roles up to CEO at the re/insurers Bermuda subsidiary.
Burton will take on his new role as of the 1st July 2017, succeeding Leonard Goldberg who has been interim CEO and will remain a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. Burton will also take a position on the Greenlight Re Board of Directors.
