Andy Marcell named CEO of Aon Reinsurance Solutions

Andy Marcell has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of broker Aon’s new Reinsurance Solutions division, as the company puts in place a new leadership structure that aligns with its branding changes, which includes the dropping of the Aon Benfield name.

Aon announced that it was retiring the Benfield name recently, as it shifts towards a structure featuring a number of different Solutions branded divisions, one of which is Reinsurance.

As part of the branding change announcement, it was revealed that Aon Benfield CEO Eric Andersen would be becoming a Co-President of Aon plc, leaving a gap at the top of the brokers reinsurance broking operations.

That gap will be filled by Andy Marcell, a well-known and high-profile member of the old Aon Benfield leadership team.

Marcell will become CEO of Aon Reinsurance Solutions immediately and will be tasked with managing the existing operations and growth strategy of the business as goes through this brand transition and beyond. Marcell will be based in New York and will continue to report to Eric Andersen.

Marcell was first hired by Aon in 2015 as Head of Strategy for Aon Benfield, where he worked on innovative ways to grow the reinsurance broking business across its existing client base, and worked to attract new clients to the firm as well. He was promoted to President of Aon Benfield in 2017, giving him wider executive responsibility to support the brokers growth.

Before his time with Aon, Marcell was CEO of Guy Carpenter’s U.S. Operations and led the brokers Global Facultative team.
