Platinum Underwriters have issued a statement regarding their catastrophe losses experienced so far during 2011 including some commentary about their exposure to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Platinum Underwriters Holdings, a Bermuda based provider of property, casualty and finite risk reinsurance coverages to a global client base, has said that it chose not to issue any catastrophe bonds since its 2008 Topiary Capital transaction matured. Standard & Poor’s, the rating agency, have issued a briefing regarding the ratings of six of the catastrophe bonds exposed to todays Japanese earthquake. The ratings on the six cat bonds which S&P had assessed will remain unchanged for the time being.
