To that end I’d like to put forward an idea for you to provide your thoughts and feedback on.
Currently the economic climate is extremely uncertain as the markets attempt to cope with the fallout from the subprime crisis. This has lead me to think that surely there must be a way to apply risk transfer techniques to economic conditions to allow concerned business to protect themselves from any undue effects.
For example, could bonds be placed which are triggered when indexes of consumer confidence dip below a certain level? This could provide some financial back up to companies who would be unduly affected by a large dip in confidence. Could other indexes such as levels of new mortgages or levels of housing sale completions also be used?
