We’re delighted to see that Guy Carpenter are continuing to embrace the digital channel to publish their latest catastrophe bond market update. The 1st quarter 2009 update is available to view now on their GCCapitalIdeas blog.
The conclusion is that the 1st quarter has seen a healthy start to the year for cat bonds but how the whole year will fare remains to be seen. The positive structural changes made to transactions seem to be having the desired effect but should any further impact be felt from the issues in the credit and financial markets investor appetite could very quickly disappear. It’s a positive report and well worth a read.
The 1st quarter of 2009 has seen issuance on a par with last year, and well above the record year of 2007. So should the market continue in this manner we could be looking at a much better year than last which would really demonstrate the health of this form of risk transfer.
