Harambee Re Ltd. sidecar details

Global insurer and reinsurer Argo Group initially launched its Harambee Re Ltd. sidecar platform in January 2013, under the name Harambee Re 2013-1 Ltd., providing capacity for the 2013 accident year.

At launch, the capital size of the sidecar vehicle was not disclosed by Argo Group, but the firm did stress that its Harambee Re platform differed from other sidecars, as it is the first to provide capacity for an insurance portfolio as well as a reinsurance portfolio of business.

The following year saw Argo Group renew its fully-collateralized reinsurance sidecar, following on from its predecessor, via writing on the reinsurance and primary side of the market, and under the name Harambee Re 2014-1 Ltd. But again, Argo Group did not disclose the sidecar vehicle’s size.

Argo Group’s latest issuance via its reinsurance sidecar facility, Harambee Re Ltd. 2015, saw the insurer and reinsurer change its strategy, opting to purely feature reinsurance business for the first time. As in previous years, Argo again chose not disclose any information on the size of its fully-collateralized reinsurance sidecar vehicle.
