DaVinci Re sidecar details

DaVinci Reinsurance Ltd. (DaVinci Re) was established by Bermuda-based reinsurer RenaissanceRe (RenRe) in October 2001, making it one of the oldest reinsurance sidecar vehicles we have data for. The fully-collateralized reinsurance sidecar was capitalised to the tune of $320.6m in early 2006, $50m of which was contributed by RenRe itself.

The vehicle was designed, and still operates to write “property catastrophe reinsurance and certain low frequency, high severity specialty reinsurance lines of business on a global basis,” according to a statement from RenRe.
