Reinsurance broker Willis Re, part of the Willis Towers Watson group, has hired Michel Büker from reinsurer PartnerRe to the newly created role of Head of Lloyd’s Capital, Willis Re Specialty.
Büker has been given dual roles at the reinsurance broker, also taking on the position of Head of Production, Customised Solutions, EMEA.
In these roles, Büker will have responsibility for extending Willis Re’s relationships with the Lloyd’s marketplace and assisting the brokers’ Specialty team to create bespoke solutions for clients.
The Head of Lloyd’s Capital role is particularly relevant as Lloyd’s now has its own insurance-linked securities (ILS) structure which is set to provide a new and more efficient route for capital to support funds at Lloyd’s.
Provision of capital and capacity to support Lloyd’s syndicate underwriting is becoming increasingly complex, with a variety of routes to achieve that.
By leveraging insurance-linked securities (ILS) structures and practices, there are now far more effective ways to channel investor capital to underwriters, enhancing the returns possible from that market.
Büker most recently worked at global reinsurance company PartnerRe. He held the CEO position of the entity that provided capital to Lloyd’s syndicates for the company.
Prior to which he was PartnerRe’s Head of Global Clients and London Market business.
Before joining PartnerRe, Büker held underwriting and underwriting management roles in a number of territories and classes with reinsurers Paris Re and AXA Re.
Graeme Moore, CEO, Willis Re Specialty, commented on the hire, “We are delighted that Michel has joined Willis Re. His experience and extensive sector relationships in London and the continent will prove to be an invaluable asset to showcase the innovative bespoke solutions that we continue to develop on behalf of our clients.”
