Twelve Securis, the specialist catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment manager, has set up new distribution partnerships in Taiwan with Concord Capital Management, and Uni-President, as the company continues to expand its presence across Asia’s institutional markets.

The government of Taiwan is being urged to purchase insurance protection against natural disasters and catastrophe events, such as earthquakes and typhoons which affect Taiwan every year, as a way to lower the burden of reconstruction on public money.

Certain Taiwanese news sources are reporting that the possibility of using catastrophe bonds as a way to spread the risk of earthquakes in Taiwan has been discussed within government circles. The topic was raised by legislators in a question to an executive of the Taiwan Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) on the 16th March.
