In this insurance-linked securities market environment where engagement from investors remains strong, Chris Parry, the Global Head of RenaissanceRe Capital Partners told us that a disciplined approach matters more than growth and right-sizing capital is key at this stage of the reinsurance cycle.

According to Kevin O’Donnell, CEO of RenaissanceRe, the reinsurer’s third-party capital and insurance-linked securities management unit, RenaissanceRe Capital Partners, is experiencing more capital interest in its collateralized vehicles than it can accommodate within its structures.

RenaissanceRe’s property catastrophe reinsurance portfolio remains rate adequate at today’s pricing, CEO Kevin O’Donnell said today, laying out the shift in tactics the reinsurer employed in response to market conditions at the mid-year renewals.

The two reinsurers established as underwriting vehicles for RenaissanceRe’s Fontana Holdings third-party capitalised casualty and specialty reinsurance focused joint venture have had their capital augmented, rating agency AM Best said also recognising the likelihood of Fontana’s reinsurers delivering profits and positive income in most periods.

With more than two decades of experience in managing third-party reinsurance capital, and the recent creation of its casualty and specialty dedicated vehicle, Bermuda-based RenaissanceRe has become somewhat of a one-stop shop for ILS and reinsurance, according to Chris Parry, Global Head of Capital Partners.
