Bermuda headquartered reinsurance firm Third Point Reinsurance Ltd., backed by hedge fund manager Dan Loeb’s Third Point LLC, has appointed three experienced and senior executives as new members of its board of directors.

Bart Hedges, CEO of Greenlight Capital Re, the Cayman Islands reinsurance firm backed by hedge fund manager David Einhorn, said that there is room for catastrophe reinsurance pricing to drop further, as the floor on natural catastrophe pricing has not yet been reached.

Greenlight Re, the Cayman Islands domiciled reinsurer, backed by fund manager David Einhorn and his Greenlight Capital, Inc. hedge fund which acts as an investment manager for Greenlight Re, faces increasing competition from new reinsurance companies with similar investment strategies.

Strong investment performance has boosted Bermuda headquartered reinsurance firm Third Point Reinsurance Ltd’s share price, after the hedge fund backed reinsurer reported attractive returns from its investment assets managed by hedge fund Third Point LLC.

Global reinsurer capital has risen by 1% so far this year, reaching $510 billion by June 30th according to reinsurance broker Aon Benfield’s latest Aon Benfield Aggregate study. The report highlights the impact of the capital markets which have been responsible for boosting reinsurer capital at a time when traditional business models have struggled.

Bermuda headquartered reinsurance firm Third Point Reinsurance Ltd. has priced its initial public offering of shares and raised slightly less than expected at approximately $276m. The hedge fund backed reinsurer sold 22,053,286 common shares at $12.50 per share, the lower end of proposed range.
