According to a recent report from Fitch Ratings, partnerships between North American insurers and alternative investment managers are expected to continue to keep growing over the near term, particularly through sidecars and offshore reinsurance platforms.

According to the latest projection from rating agency AM Best and broker Guy Carpenter, third-party capital deployed in reinsurance is anticipated to grow by almost 7% this year, projected to end the year at a new high of $114 billion.

The reinsurance market is maintaining structural discipline at this time, with the lack of meaningful new entrants seen as one driver. But rating agency AM Best has asked today whether the stronger foundations of the industry can prove durable this time, while also noting that the structural reset has benefitted ILS investors as well.

Swiss Re’s CEO Andreas Berger explained today that the company sees the current state of the reinsurance market as one where discipline is being maintained, which he believes is a new normal and must be sustained, while he also said that margins were particularly attractive for natural catastrophe risks in recent renewal rounds.
