Insurance-linked securities (ILS) are seen as one of the top choices for investors seeking diversification and to add performance to their portfolios, in the private assets category of investments, according to survey data from Schroders.

Having analysed data from the secondary market for insurance-linked securities (ILS), consultancy Lane Financial LLC concludes that the market for catastrophe bonds and ILS will remain in “hard market” territory in 2024, but perhaps only “half as hard” as might have been forecast at the start of this year.

Allied World Assurance Company (AWAC) has successfully priced its latest catastrophe bond, securing the upsized target for $275 million of reinsurance protection from its 2001 CAT Re Ltd. (Series 2023-1)  renewal transaction, while the spread was priced roughly 14% below the mid-point of initial guidance.

The North Carolina Farm Bureau has now secured and priced its debut Blue Ridge Re Ltd. (Series 2023-1) catastrophe bond issuance at the upsized target size of $400 million, while the notes have been priced within the initial guidance range.

London Innovation Underwriters, the entity established by listed special purpose acquisition company Financials Acquisition Corp, which was launched in 2022 by sector executives William Allen and Andrew Rear, is no more, as the initiative failed to secure the investments required and so is winding down the operation.
