Signal Iduna Reinsurance Ltd. (SI Re), the Swiss based reinsurance company that invests in insurance-linked securities (ILS) for their diversification and return effects, expanded its ILS investments which include catastrophe bonds during the last year to US $111.5 million.

Coming off a substantial year for the catastrophe bond market, Aon Securities, the capital markets and insurance-linked securities division of the insurance and reinsurance broker, reported that its Catastrophe Bond Total Return Index generated a return of 11.6% for 2025.

Recent developments in the reinsurance and ILS sector are enabling a surge of investor interest in longer-tailed risks, such as casualty lines, due to notable advances in risk management technology and innovation, according to Aditya Dutt, President of Aeolus Capital Management.

Leadenhall Capital Partners, the London headquartered specialist insurance linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance related investments manager, has experienced particularly strong inflows of new capital across all its ILS fund strategies, growing its assets under management (AUM) to $5.72 billion by the end of 2025.

Franklin Templeton Investment Solutions, the hedge fund-focused arm of the global asset manager, has moderated its stance on catastrophe bonds from ‘strongly overweight’ to ‘overweight’. Despite this shift, the manager maintains that the asset class remains attractive.

Despite a decrease in spread multiples, the private insurance-linked securities (ILS) market continues to remain attractive both in absolute terms and in comparison, to the catastrophe bond market, Stephan Ruoff from Schroders Capital told Artemis.

Both underwriting and capital discipline must be functions of the strategic playbook of the ILS industry, according to Aditya Dutt, President of Aeolus Capital Management, who says a key shift in insurance-linked securities is increasing care being taken to manage capital appropriately for investors.
