Catastrophe bond news

Having recently secured its debut catastrophe bond, the $100 million Maschpark Re Ltd. (Series 2024-1) parametric earthquake issuance, German re/insurance group Talanx has said that the protection augments its need for reinsurance and to cover earthquake risks in Chile as its business grows.

US primary insurer Allstate is now aiming to upsize its latest catastrophe bond by as much as 43%, as its target has increased to $500 million in multi-peril catastrophe reinsurance protection from the capital markets through its latest Sanders Re II Ltd. (Series 2024-3) issuance, Artemis can report.

According to specialist insurance-linked securities (ILS) fund manager Twelve Capital, while the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season will result in insurance industry losses of between $30 billion and $50 billion, only muted impacts are expected for reinsurance and catastrophe bonds.

RenaissanceRe, the Bermuda based reinsurance company and third-party capital manager, looks set to be the latest to offer a UCITS insurance-linked securities (ILS) fund, with a fund structure now registered in Ireland under its Medici brand, so presumably this will be a cat bond strategy, Artemis has learned.

Beazley, the London headquartered specialty insurance and reinsurance underwriter, is back in the cat bond market with a $150 million target for what will be its second natural catastrophe bond, again using the Lloyd’s owned ILS structure to issue this London Bridge 2 PCC Limited (Fuchsia 2 – 2024-1) deal.

RenaissanceRe has successfully priced its latest catastrophe bond and secured the upper-end target size for coverage from the deal, with the Mona Lisa Re Ltd. (Series 2025-1) issuance now finalised to provide the company $350 million of collateralized retrocessional reinsurance from the capital markets.

(Series 2025-1) issuance, which is the insurer’s first to target protection on an industry-loss index trigger basis, Artemis can report.
