Stone Ridge Asset Management, the New York based alternative risk premia focused investment manager, grew the catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) assets under management in its range of mutual reinsurance fund strategies to more than $5 billion in the last quarter of record.

Last year, catastrophe data aggregator and industry loss estimate provider PERILS revealed an extension to its services, with a new methodology that combines its standard data methodology with that of CRESTA CLIX, which the firm’s CEO Christoph Oehy has said will simplify the process for risk transfer use-cases including catastrophe bonds and ILW’s.

Hong Kong’s Insurance Authority (IA) has welcomed the recent issuance of the latest and sixth catastrophe bond under its insurance-linked securities (ILS) regulatory regime, saying the US $35 million Silk Road Re Limited cat bond sponsored by Taiping Re reinforces its commitment to the sector.

The catastrophe bond market delivered the second-highest total-return in its history in 2024, reaching 17.29% for the full-year, according to data from the Swiss Re Cat Bond Performance Indices.

Catastrophe bond and related insurance-linked securities (ILS) market issuance of $4.5 billion in the fourth-quarter was sufficient to take the full-year 2024 total to a record $17.7 billion, while the outstanding market reached a new all-time-high of $49.5 billion, Artemis’ new quarterly cat bond market report shows.

Galapagos Capital has now received the expected official authorisation from Brazil’s insurance regulator SUSEP to establish its own Sociedades Seguradoras de Propósito Específico (SSPE), a special purpose reinsurance vehicle that can issue Letra de Risco de Seguro (Insurance Risk Letters), which are insurance-linked securities (ILS).

SafePoint Insurance Company has successfully doubled the size of its new Nature Coast Re Ltd. (Series 2025-1) catastrophe bond, securing $200 million of reinsurance protection from capital market investors through the issuance of notes, Artemis has learned.
