AXA XL, the commercial P&C underwriting arm of AXA Group, grew its gross reinsurance premiums written by 11% through the first-half of 2025, with alternative capital sources from third party and ILS investors supporting this expansion of the business.

AXA Group reported that gross written premiums grew by 12% for its AXA XL Reinsurance division during the first-quarter of the year, but the firm’s CFO Alban de Mailly Nesle explained that the majority of that was ceded to insurance-linked securities (ILS) strategies.

AXA XL ILS Capital Management, the alternative reinsurance capital division of the commercial insurance and reinsurance unit of the AXA Group, is set to use Clearwater Analytics as a provider of investment accounting services.

AXA’s latest catastrophe bond transaction, Calypso Capital II Ltd., has grown by 75% while marketing to now offer €350m of protection against losses from windstorm events in Europe. At the same time the price guidance has fallen to the low-end of the marketed range.

A new catastrophe bond has been launched on behalf of French insurance group AXA, the third in the insurers series of cat bonds named Calypso. Calypso Capital II Ltd. will seek to secure the insurer €200m of protection against losses from windstorm events in Europe.
