A new issuance of privately placed catastrophe bond notes, named after their segregated account as Aquarelle, is likely to be, at $250 million in size, the largest private cat bond or insurance-linked securities (ILS) placement ever issued.

The Artex Risk Solutions owned segregated account reinsurance transformer platform, Artex SAC Limited, has completed issuance of the first private catastrophe bond seen from the vehicle in 2020, with a $30 million Artex SAC Limited – Tenby Notes transaction.

Private catastrophe bond issuance continues apace in time for the January 2020 reinsurance renewals, with a new $50.26 million cat bond lite issuance taking the 2019 total for these more privately placed deals just over $900 million, according to Artemis data.

Another new private catastrophe bond, or cat bond lite, transaction has been completed, issued and listed in Bermuda using the Artex SAC Limited ILS Note Program II, in the form of $8.311 million of Artex SAC Limited – Series EX Notes.

Artex Risk Solutions, an insurance and reinsurance management unit of broker Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., has renamed the private catastrophe bond, ILS and segregated accounts company it inherited through the acquisition of Kane, to Artex SAC Limited.
