Swiss Re makes Mixon Head of Business Development for ACP / ILS after Johnson departure

Global reinsurance firm Swiss Re has made Charles Mixon the new Head of Business Development for all insurance-linked securities (ILS) capital raising activities under the Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) division, filling a gap left by the recent departure of Edward Johnson, Artemis has learned.

Mixon has a strong background in insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investments, alongside capital raising, business development and operations for other asset classes.

He joined Swiss Re in 2024, stepping into the role of Senior Business Development Manager, Alternative Capital Partners.

In that role, Mixon worked on investor relations and capital raising across the Swiss Re ACP range of reinsurance and ILS investment offerings.

Now, with former Head of Business Development Edward Johnson having departed from Swiss Re Alternative Capital Partners, according to our sources, Mixon has been promoted to lead that function for the reinsurance firm’s ILS funds and alternative capital activities.

Mixon’s career has seen him work across insurance, reinsurance, ILS and capital market investing and prior to joining Swiss Re he was a Managing Director within the insurance department at Cohen & Company Asset Management.

Mixon spent more than two years at Cohen & Co., before which he worked at investment management firm Neuberger Berman, focused on insurance-linked securities (ILS).

Mixon joined Neuberger Berman when that company acquired his employer Cartesian Re, which was the original home of the industry-loss warranty (ILW), index product and cat bond focused ILS investment strategy and team that Neuberger Berman acquired in 2018.

In total, Mixon had spent more than 9 years working at Cartesian Re and then over 2 years at Neuberger Berman with that ILS team, in Managing Director roles.

Before that, he worked at Cartesian Group where he focused on global private equity and also at insurer AIG, where he had a private equity investments focus as well.

Mixon has meaningful experience in both capital raising and investment operations within insurance-linked securities (ILS) and is a natural fit to lead business development for Swiss Re’s Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) unit and its ILS fund management operations.
