Non-cat P&C focused collateralised reinsurer Specialty Risk RE closes $50m funding round

Specialty Risk RE (SRR), a non-cat property and casualty focused collateralised reinsurer launched in 2024, has successfully closed an initial $50 million institutional funding round, led by private equity firm NMS Capital Group.

specialty-risk-re-logoThe California-based collateralised reinsurer states that it has a focus on mid to long-tail risks, specialising in non-cat property and casualty quota share and excess of loss reinsurance programmes with established loss histories.

This initial $50 million investment bolsters the company’s ability to address what it describes as a growing deficit in reinsurance capacity, providing certain programme carriers and managing general agents (MGAs) with a “reliable, well-capitalized partner at a time when market demand for stable risk transfer solutions is rising.”

Specialty Risk RE says that it was established last year to serve as a strategic capital partner for MGAs and carriers, and works closely with a select group of programme administrators as it looks to offer long-term and sustainable reinsurance solutions for structured risk-sharing.

“This funding marks a significant milestone in our vision to establish SRR as a trusted and well-capitalized partner in the reinsurance market. Our strategy is built on disciplined risk selection, allowing us to construct a well-diversified book of business without overexposure to any single class or region. By leveraging our strong capitalization and domestic presence, SRR is positioned to be the go-to reinsurance partner in today’s risk environment,” said President and Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Collura.

As part of its underwriting strategy, the reinsurer utilises a “steady and systemic growth model” designed to enhance long-term insurance and investment returns.

According to the firm, investor interest has been exceptionally strong.

Collura added, “The market response to our model has been highly positive. Our investors have already committed access to additional capital as early as the end of Q1 2025, allowing us to scale in response to demand. This strategic flexibility ensures that SRR remains well-positioned to support our partners with stable, long-term capital solutions.”
