Nephila Capital, the specialist insurance-linked securities and catastrophe reinsurance investment manager, has added a new Junior Underwriter in Bermuda, hiring Max De Souza from his most recent role as a modeller at Pillar Capital.
De Souza has been working in reinsurance in Bermuda since 2022, with all his roles on the island having a property catastrophe focus.
His first role in reinsurance was with RenaissanceRe, as a property catastrophe focused underwriting intern in 2022.
On completion of that internship, De Souza joined insurance-linked securities investment manager Pillar Capital, initially as a junior catastrophe modeller.
Then, in early 2024, De Souza was promoted to the role of catastrophe modeller at Pillar Capital.
Now, according to an update on LinkedIn, De Souza, has joined Nephila Capital in Bermuda this month, starting as a Junior Underwriter.
His first pure underwriting role in the reinsurance and ILS industry, De Souza already has a strong grounding in property catastrophe risk and the use of risk models from his recent positions.
Prior to moving to Bermuda, De Souza worked in a range of capital markets trading, brokerage and investment banking positions in London.
As we reported recently, Nephila Capital grew its assets under management (AUM) by $600 million over a twelve month period, to reach $7.6 billion as of September 30th 2025.
