Munich Re Trading, the division of the global reinsurance firm focused on providing weather and commodity solutions, including derivatives, index and parametric risk transfer, has hired a senior executive from Arbol, as John Coleman joins it to lead origination for agriculture opportunities in North America.
Coleman has joined Munich Re Trading LLC as its Managing Director of Origination, Agriculture, North America.
He is a weather derivatives and weather risk transfer specialist, having been the Director of Structuring & Origination at eWeatherRisk, Inc. for almost 8 years.
In particular, Coleman is known as a specialist in weather risk transfer solutions and weather hedging for the agricultural economy.
Arbol, now known as a parametric risk transfer specialist, but at the time known a technology driven marketplace using blockchain and smart contracts, had acquired weather hedging solutions provider eWeatherRisk back in 2020.
That acquisition was a way for Arbol to accelerate its entry into the weather risk transfer sector, with the eWeatherRisk team bringing significant experience and client relationships.
John Coleman became the Head of Structuring at Arbol when the acquisition completed.
In 2021, Coleman became Arbol’s Head of Agriculture, then in 2022 took on the role of Head of Business Development for US Agricultural Solutions.
Munich Re’s Weather and Commodity Group, which sits within Munich Re Trading LLC, offers tailored risk management solutions to help industries cope with the impacts of non-catastrophic weather variabilities.
The parametric weather derivative products that Munich Re’s division offers, can enable businesses, including in agriculture, to offset the effects of weather variability, smoothing revenues and protecting the bottom-line.
