Global reinsurance firm Munich Re has appointed René Mück as its new Head of Capital Partners, Americas, the division where much of its risk trading, insurance-linked securities (ILS), catastrophe bond and retrocession activities take place.
Munich Re Capital Partners launched as a unit in mid-2015 and brought together a diverse array of expert teams that are focused on capital and structure agnostic reinsurance and risk transfer solutions.
This ranges from capital optimisation solutions for ceding company clients, to alternative risk transfer structures and capital markets backed reinsurance arrangements in the form of insurance-linked securities (ILS).
Part of the Capital Partners remit at Munich Re is the origination of opportunities in catastrophe bonds, ILS, derivatives and swaps, as well as the management of the reinsurers’ ILS investment portfolio and ILS investor relationships.
Retrocessional reinsurance arrangements and also the arrangement of Munich Re’s quota share sidecar structures also takes place within Capital Partners.
René Mück is a well-known name in the Munich Re group, having joined in 2011 and headed up weather risk trading as Head of Entrepreneurial Risk Solutions in Munich, before then spending two years as Head of Analytics in the Agriculture & Weather risk division.
Mück then relocated to Japan for Munich Re, spending three years as Head of Non-Life Underwriting in Tokyo.
Having relocated back to Germany recently, Mück has now taken on the position of Head of Capital Partners, Americas, based in Munich to begin.
He has also joined the Executive Leadership Team at Munich Re US, the company told us.
