IQUW, the rebranded ARCUS 1856 Syndicate at Lloyd’s, has continued to build-out its reinsurance infrastructure, with two Heads of Reinsurance, for London and Bermuda named, one a new hire, the other an internal promotion.
Dan Warburg has been hired as IQUW’s new Head of Reinsurance, London, joining the company from Lancashire.
Meanwhile, Rene Lamer has been promoted to become Head of Reinsurance, Bermuda.
Warburg, the new hire, will report to Steven Tebbutt, Active Underwriter IQUW Syndicate 1856 and Stephen Young, Group Head of IQUW Reinsurance.
He will lead and build the IQUW Specialty and Property Reinsurance book in London, running the UK-based team alongside Property Lead Underwriters Ciaran Waters and Sarah Smith.
Warburg has over 20 years’ reinsurance market experience, joining from his most recent position at Lancashire’s Syndicate 2010, where he was a Reinsurance Underwriter. Before Lancashire, he was a Reinsurance Underwriter with Cathedral Underwriting.
“It’s an exciting time at IQUW as we continue to build our Reinsurance division as part of our overall IQUW Group growth strategy, and I’m delighted that we have someone of Dan’s calibre in this position,” commented Young. “Dan is a respected reinsurance underwriter within the Lloyd’s community and he will be a tremendous asset to IQUW as we construct our global Reinsurance portfolio and intelligently use insights to improve our decision making”.

Rene Lamer joined IQUW in Bermuda in 2020 after leaving his Chief Executive role with Sompo International in Singapore, to return to the island.
He has been an integral part of the IQUW Bermuda team since November 2021, and has global market experience and local market knowledge as well.
He now becomes Head of Reinsurance, Bermuda, so will lead IQUW’s reinsurance activities from that underwriting base.
In addition, IQUW announced a new coverholder agreement today as well.
IQUW Agency Bermuda Limited now expands IQUW’s global platform and increases its business remit in Bermuda, the company said, allowing it to underwrite Property and Specialty Reinsurance business on IQUW Syndicate 1856 paper.
