Insurance Partners Europe, a Paris-based boutique risk advisory focused on insurance and reinsurance consulting and brokerage, is expanding to offer services to the insurance-linked securities (ILS) space, making a key hire in Pierre Mouilhade, a former ILS portfolio manager at SCOR Investment Partners.
Insurance Partners Europe (IPE) was founded by another former SCOR executive, Pierre-Antoine Mazoyer who worked at the reinsurance company as a senior treaty underwriter.
Mazoyer founded IPE in 2019 and now Mouilhade has joined the company as a co-founder, aiming to develop an insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused specialism for the consultancy.
IPE is positioning itself a little differently, as both an independent reinsurance broker, but also a consultative company that can assist with portfolio construction and management, as well as modelling and risk analysis.
Having seen a growing appetite from the reinsurance market to access portfolios of primary insurance risk in Europe, IPE has been helping to execute such transactions, from creating products including wording and pricing, to managing business plans and putting together binders and reinsurance programs.
IPE has its own digital platform which it uses to monitor portfolios and streamline the execution and operation of these business strategies, with several P&C programs developed across both personal and commercial lines so far.
In addition, IPE places reinsurance for its own programs and for clients, growing quickly to position itself among the leading independent reinsurance brokers in France.
Now, the company sees an opportunity to assist investors in accessing returns from the reinsurance market through ILS allocations.
But IPE believes that some ILS investors are seeeing limitations in the catastrophe bond market currently and want to grow their peak risk exposures, so are turning to collateralised reinsurance.
In the hardening market environment seen of late and given thee influence of climate change on catastrophe exposures, IPE feels there is a gap to provide services to ILS investors and investment managers who require assistance on portfolio management, catastrophe modelling and reinsurance underwriting.
With a successful track record across these disciplines, IPE believes it can advise investors on their allocation, provide mandate supervision and assist with direct transactions.
Pierre-Antoine Mazoyer explained to Artemis, “I am delighted the company keeps gathering such talents as Pierre to sustain our ambitions. He will bring tech development as well as ILS opportunities given its outstanding track record in its previous funds.”
Pierre Mouilhade added, “Pierre-Antoine successfully launched IPE with strong partnerships between insurers and reinsurers. The expanding to ILS advisory is in the continuity of our expertise with proven track record.
“The ultimate aim is to operate a convergence in our operations and to give access to direct insurance programs to third party capital.”
